Ano Ang Dapat Malaman Sa IT Career? Career Guide To IT Wanna Be!

Bakit Madaming Gustong Maging IT Professional?

An introduction and guide to Information Technology from a non-IT education expert but an experienced IT professional.

Ano ba ang IT?

Information Technology and Its Definition
Short History

Information Technology in Education

Courses in the Philippines related to Computer and Technology (as of 2016)

1. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS)
2. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) or (BSICT)
3. Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS)
4. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE)
5. and more...

How To Building Your Own PC

In my previous article on Computer 101: Basic Computer Knowledge by Kuya Dijae, we discussed the basic parts of a computer and because many are asking me how do I buy and build my own PC, this next article will guide you and give you foundation on how to build your own PC.

Even with so many handy gadgets like laptops, android phones, smart phones, tablets, etc., we cannot deny that a desktop computer is a must for every person and every home. It is still the most reliable and indispensable tool for all technological needs. Bulky it may be, but it is the fast and sturdy. Of course, it depends on the components of your computer still. Nowadays, there are so many high-end personal computers that choosing one is so difficult, considering the price also. If you don’t have enough budget for a commercial personal computer, there are ways. One of them is to build your own.

Build your own computer? That may sound crazy for non-IT or computer science people, but it is possible as long as you are given the best guidance. Most gaming addicts actually customize their own computer to adapt to their needs and type. There are a lot of guides as well as sellers online providing needs for custom built laptops and computers.

The first thing to remember before building your own computer and laptop is your budget. You don’t want your custom built laptop to be performing less than a commercial built one. You may look up the internet for estimated costs for a custom built pc or check the prices of the parts you want. It is also important to determine whether the parts are available locally. International shipping will take more time and with more risks for damages.

linux4beginnersph - basic linux training tagalog dijae

Next is to know what part you want to change or upgrade. Are you a PC gamer? Or just a computer aficionado that wants the fastest performing laptop in the world? How to build or customize your computer will depend on your wants and preferences. The common parts to look after are the motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card, power supply, and CPU cooler. PC gamers will typically go for hardware parts that will give the best graphic resolution and optimal-in-game performance. Usually, we opt for the most affordable. However, always consider that almost all software are upgrading every now and then. Consider a gaming rig that will last up to ten years, preferably, so that you will not have to worry for games that will only play at 3060p or even higher.
Finally, learn how to build your personal computer or laptop. It’s not as easy as opening the case and guessing which part inside it looks similar with. We’re not saying that you need an expert, because that will need additional payment. The most reliable guide is the internet. Look for a tutorial, a blog post or even a YouTube video to help you. You might need testing the part before using it. Also, plan before you build. Make a sketch or framework for your gaming PC that will ensure the durability and performance. There will be wires needed in order to connect the parts to the power supply, so make sure these wires will be safe. Remember also that you might need soldering or pasting the parts together, so look for recommended adhesives that will do the job.

To sum up, always consider your preferences. Building PC needs something that will make you comfortable, convenient and most of all cost efficient.

So if you are ready to build your own computer and you think this things I've just told you will help you, give it a like, share and comment below.

10 New Tips to Be Efficient in Using the Internet

These browser-keyboard-mouse techniques made my computer skills better from a student to an IT professional and somehow got me writing cool PC stuffs and how-to.

I was using these methods since Google Chrome was released way back. So I thought I would share this to you too. If you already know these, I hope at least in one point, a new knowledge may benefit you.

1. Using URL to QRCode in Browser as Plugin. This helps you to scan the URL via QRcode generated using your smartphone or tablet to open instead of typing a bunch of gibberish URLs.

2. Using Incognito mode or Private browsing (CTRL + SHIFT + n) to test or login a different account at the same time. This can also serve as browsing invisibly to protect you from account theft in public places. Just to remind, you can't find any history on this mode.

3. Using filters in Gmail or Yahoo to prevent having 10,000+ emails on your inbox.

linux4beginnersph - basic linux training tagalog dijae

4. Using Cloud drives such as Dropbox, GDrive or Onedrive to easily attach, share, and keep small to large files without worrying you disk space and having USB drives or even email attachment limitations. Most of all, you are worry free to lose everything. Create now by clicking on the links above.

5. Using these cool mouse and keyboard shortcuts on your Google chrome.

- Use middle key (scroll key) on your mouse to close the selected tab.
- Use also the scroll key to close a selected window tab.
- Use CTRL + T to open new tab.
- Use CTRL + W to close current tab
- Toogle between tabs by CTRL + {1,2,3,4,0(as last)}
- CTRL + SHIFT + W to close all tabs
- CTRL + SHIFT + T to open previously closed tab.
- Use scroll key to a link to open to a new tab.

6. View your browsing history anywhere by going to http://google.com/history

7. Understand that the use of SHIFT is to reverse (or to go back) most of the keyboard commands. Try CTRL + TAB, vs CTRL + SHIFT + TAB. See the difference.

8. Use WINDOW + "+" to use magnifying glass to view details of page, Window + Esc to quit. This is also helpful in presentation like Powerpoint to zoom small images.

9. Or just use CTRL + "+"/"-" to increase/decrease font sizes or adjust page size. CTRL + 0 to revert back to normal size.

10. Highlight a text or group of texts and click+drag it to the top bar to let google search for it.
Simple right?

That's it for now folks! More tips from Kuya Dijae are coming.
If you think this article helped you, please share it to your friends through Facebook or Twitter via the share button below.

Bakit Mabagal Ang Internet Ko?

linux4beginnersph basic linux training tagalog dijae

1. Kailangan may internet connection ka

2. Naka-connect ka sa WiFi nyo or sa ibang bahay (kapitbahay or hinack mo lang :) )

1. May plan or subcription ka sa Internet Service Provider (ISP).
2. Naka-connect ka sa WiFi nyo or sa ibang bahay (kapitbahay or hinack mo lang :) )

Go to: Start > Type CMD > Press Enter. Gaya nito.
Sa loob ng black screen na ito, i-type ang "ping www.google.com -t" without the "".

Press CTRL+C upang itigil ang command or close mo nalang.

So kung makikita mo na "Ping timed out".

So ayos diba?

Go to www.speedtest.net

The best ways to prevent computer from problems and viruses"

Hep hep!

Basic Computer Tool Every Users Should Know

Hey there! I'm Dijae or you may call me Kuya Dijae. Today I want you to know what basic tools people like you need to know about your computers. But before we begin I would like you to start with knowing first the basics of computer and it's components. Follow them below:

Skip the items above if you are already equipped with it, and continue below.

Not let's do this! :)

Note: this information is only applicable to Windows Operating Systems

An IT guy or your techie friend asks you the details of your computer but you don't have any idea what to do in order to get them. They even ask you to 'go here', 'click that, and this', and 'type this or that'. Or in either way, you want to see every important details of your computer for re-ordering, asking assistance, troubleshooting, or comparing other computers, and of course if you are an IT tech support or planning to apply then you might need this now.

What you need to know basically is the hardware, software and network details of your PC. These are the items where you need to have for IT purposes is concerned. So, I think we need to start of with the components of each of these items.

linux4beginnersph basic linux training tagalog dijae

1)Hardware
These, are the major physical component of your PC. Memory, CPU, Video Card, Printers, Hard Disks, Motherboard
2)Software
The operating system, configurations and other applications installed on your computer.
3)NetworkBasically, the connection details like Network Card, TCP/IP, or even your Wireless, configurations.

I'll show you the easiest and quickest way to do this and not the usual way!

Open Run, to do this, on you keyboard press and hold Window Key (the one with the Logo usually between the Ctrl and Alt) + R. You should see a window like below, then type the word 'msinfo32.exe'. Then press enter or click 'OK'.

You should now see a window like this. Now, this is a power tool as this will show you all the basic and advance information on your computer. From hardware, software and network.

  • On the highlight, you will see the 'Operating System and the version'.
  • The System type.
  • Processor
  • Installed Physical Memory
I know it's cool right? You don't need to visit many windows and properties just to find each details, it's all here!

Now, check on the hard disk details, under components > Storage > Drives you will see the total and free space of your drives. And yes, you will need this for IT purposes.

Then in the network part, you will be going to components > Network > Adapter  and scroll down until you see details like below. So basically, you need the name and product type, the IP Address, subnet, and gateway, and the MAC address.
Quick Info: IP Address is the address given by your router to which is used for network and access the internet. MAC however has nothing to do with Apple :), but it is the unique identifier assigned to the network interface for physical network connection.

Are you still following? If no, just put comments below for questions. If yes, let's continue.

For documentation purposes or you want to save this details and send them over, you can actually save it. Go to File > Save and save it wherever you want.

That's it! Isn't that easy? So whenever someone ask you, your boss, your son, your dad, or even me. Just use this and save it then send it!

For more other details about your computer, just browse the navigation on the left pane, it's all there my friend!

So I hope you enjoy my tip and don't forget to read my other computer articles and to support this site please share this to your friends, they may find this handy too!

And oh! I almost forgot! If you find my articles informative and you wanted more, please subscribe to my mailing list below to receive my latest articles straight to your inbox.

6 Most Commonly Mistaken Computer Terminologies

6 Most Commonly Mistaken Computer Terminologies by Kuya Dijae.

One time in the office, a user kept asking for help with her "Flash Drive". But her intro with me was "sir! I'm having a problem with my USB, it's not working anymore!", and I was "What USB ma'am?, the USB port or the USB drive "Flash Drive?"

If you get my point here, it means you know what I'm referring to. But I know this is a minor issue with the term "Flash Drive", "USB Drive", "Thumb Drive" or the commonly term "USB". But what I'm saying here is that there are simple terms and name that people are confused with and got used to but not knowing what it truly means.

linux4beginnersph basic linux training tagalog dijae

I just want to share with you, the other name of USB! (kidding, I won't add  a new name for it anymore!). Okay, I want you to know my list of "Most Commonly Mistaken Computer Terminology".

1. "USB".
People call this a lot as USB, but did you know that it really came from the term "USB Flash Drive" and shortened as USB these days? USB or Universal Serial Bus is an industry standard that defines cables, connectors, and communication protocols used in a bus for connection, communication, and power supply between computers and electronic devices. Actually it was designed to connect computer peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, printers, portable media devices, digital cameras, disk drives (USB Flash Drive), and many more. This simply means that USB is not the "Flash Drive that we use to store files", but its really the means for connectivity. Do you get the point?

2. "Laptop, Notebook, Netbook".
Sometimes people are confused with these terms, but 2 of them are interchangeable, those are Laptop and Notebook. Laptop or Notebook are those we see with larger screens 13" or more and has more power just like a desktop. Unlike Netbook, it is smaller with 10" screen size diagonally and has lesser power specially in CPU, and graphics. Also, Netbook has no option of DVD/CD drives and has lesser USB ports. So depends on your needs if you need to have a Netbook or Notebook.

3. "WiFi" and "Internet".
I hear many people use the term "WiFi" as their internet itself and I tell them always that WiFi is NOT the internet. WIFI or (Wireless Fidelity) is the wireless connection using a Wireless Router (or that little rectangular box thing that blinks a lot). Technically WiFi is produced using an AP (Access Point) which comes with a SSID (Service Set Identifier) or "WiFi name" as most people call it that usually accessed by a password. Are you still with me? Alright, while Internet is the "Internet itself" which you access to open websites and connect to your love ones. To sum up, for you to connect to the internet, you need to connect through a WiFi connection at home, office, school or Malls or if you have a network cable provided too! Are we clear? Read again. :)

4. "Mouse" vs the "Cursor".
To make this short, what you are holding right now to click something on your screen, that's a MOUSE. And the "Arrow" or "Pointer" on your screen to click something is a "Cursor". Right? I hope that's clear!

5. "Desktop" vs the "PC".
While these two seems the same and almost everyone will say too, I'll tell you it depends on how you say it. "Desktop" is a general term of a computer classification that has a greater amount of power to compute composed of a system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse basically. In short, it is the type of computer we see that is not a Laptop. If you want to know the difference of a Laptop and Desktop, please read my article here. So what is a PC? PC or (Personal Computer) is a name registered to IBM or it was called before as IBM PC as their first produced personal computer to be compatible to IBM machines. But today, the term PC has become more and more difficult to pin down, but to make it short it applies to any personal computer based on an Intel Microprocessor or an Intel-compatible microprocessor. So remember a PC is not a Mac, PC were referred by Apple to a Windows-based machine, as opposed to its own computers, which are called "Macs". But as for a generally term used today, when you have a computer at home or at work, you can safely call it a PC. So unless you know the difference and the history, you can say the word PC when you see one. :)

6. "Install" vs "Setup".
Because people use this a lot, specially administrators/technicians and programmers this would be a good example. But for the non-technical people, like you (perhaps) you heard this many times from your friends when you want or need a software to run on your computer. The main difference of Install and Setup is that, there's an initial and after process. Initial is when you "Install" a program to your computer, it's sometimes called "pre-setup". Install or installation is the process of copying or putting the necessary files of a program to your computer. While the "after process" is the "Setup" is when you or the computer "configures" or "modify" the files for the specific needs of the software to run on your computer. Still with me? Basically, Install is putting that software to your computer, as the Setup is when you do some configurations. See reference below for further explanation. Whew that was tough yeah?

I know there are more things and common computer terminologies that people use incorrectly. But this doesn't mean that the person you are telling this will not understand. That's the use of communication, agree with me? Same thing in communication, structural grammar is not always needed in personal communication but importantly, you understand each other right? Now here comes the grammar gurus! :) Well, my article is not to argue on the grammar matters but did you get my point here? These are the terminologies you use (I guess that confuse others).
So If you have any more to add, feel free to comment and let me know what you think here. Now if you need to know anything about these terms, you can always call Google of course! But I hope you learn something here, because that's the goal of Kuya Dijae!

Computer 101: Basic Computer Knowledge by Kuya Dijae

Mga kaibigan, kababayan, and to everyone!

Let me give you lang a short intro about me knowing these stuffs. Ako'y isang System Administrator, dating Field Technical Support, Research Engineer, Hardware Engineer, IT Staff at computer technician.

"Parang napakalawak nun Kuya Dijae ah?".

Hehe.

So tara, isa-isahin natin sa madaling salita.

May dalawang klaseng Video Card, isang 'internal or built-in' at mismong 'Graphics Card'.

9. Ang keyboard, yung pangmusika! (hehe biro lang) Puro biro eh no?

May left and right click ito at minsan may 'mouse wheel' at middle clicks.
